The announcements start trickling in from the first week of October - starting with the names of winners for physiology and medicine. The Nobel Prize in economics, this year will be announced on October 13.

Interestingly there is no official confirmation about the nominations for Nobel prizes as the statutes of the Nobel Foundation restrict disclosure of information about the nominations for 50 years.

However, a few names have cropped up as the possible winners of the Economics Nobel for 2008. These names find prominent mention in various blog posts, in comments by Nobel winners like Joseph Stiglitz, in indications from the British betting agency Ladbrokes, and in media reports.

The list also includes the names of three Indians - Jagdish Natwarlal Bhagwati, Avinash Kamalakar Dixit and Partha Dasgupta.
